Phil Fletcher and Tony Bailey have known each other for over 30 years, first getting together in a band called Spice in 1976, based in Blackpool. Phil was a guitar vocalist, playing in Working Mens Clubs etc since he was 13. Spice needed a vocalist and Phil joined. The band soon started gigging in the North West, and did a summer season in Camber Sands Pontins in 1979 before breaking up temporarily. They started up again in the 80's with a more rocky approach, changing the name to Shady, who continued with original member John Williams until only a couple of years ago. Shady were one of the bands to start the thriving Blackpool pub scene in the mid 80's and developed the zany humour which is evident in todays act. Bookings included a summer season at Warner Haven in '91 and three summer seasons at Blackpool Tower in '92, '93 and '94. However, after the first season Phil re-joined Shady who were then given the opportunity to support Chubby Brown at the South Pier for the summer seasons of '93 and '94. They also toured with him in many of the large UK theatres. Tony also re-joined Shady in '95 and Phil expressed his ideas of forming a duo and going to Tenerife. Taking the best elements of the show and putting it into a 45 minute set, they moved to the island in '95, to work the circuit. The following year they added the Blues Brothers Show to their repertoire and were therefore doing 2 completely different shows. In '97 the opportunity arose for them to be resident at Harlequins Bar, Playa las Vistas, and they jumped at it because it gave them the chance to put the instruments back on , Tony on bass, and Phil on guitar, and spread the comedy features over the week, taking time to build the audience rather than cramming the whole thing into 45 minutes. The partnership with Harlequins was to last 9 years on and off, (more on than off!), and they also did stints at Princess Di's, The Stadium Bar, and Blaydon Races. When Harlequins sadly closed down in 2006, Kracka had already started their tribute to Lennon & McCartney and the songs of the Beatles, and were back on the circuit with a vengance. They were nominated for this show, at the 2006 Tenerife Entertainment Awards. As 2007 approached, Kracka were keen to get back into a residency, and started playing live at various venues including Grandee o Donnells and The Wild Geese, Golf del Sur, Shennanigans, and funnily enough Bar 39 Los Cristianos, where in April 2007, they were offered a residency 6 nights a week. |
